Standard English pub, rather dark inside despite bright spring-like day. Pleasant barmaid, reasonably varied menu. My wife opted for "Field mushrooms with mozzarella sauce, side salad and ciabatta bread", which came in at about £8 if you allow £4 for the dessert included in the £12 total price. When it arrived ... ONE mushroom, about 50p in Tesco's, plus a triangle of bread measuring about 3 inches per side. For EIGHT QUID. When we made a good-natured complaint, hoping for maybe another mushroom or two, or at least an apology, we got the British standard "We sell hundreds of these and never had a complaint before". Pathetic. Eventually we got a bad-tempered refund, but if you are going to eat at the Dandy Lion, bear the above in mind.

I like this pub. Beautiful from the outside (especially with all the hanging baskets in summer), a little dark inside i always find but generally a well loved pub, busy most of the time with a core of regulars aswell as visitors. The food has always been great and i've tested it quite a few times. It is reasonably priced and offers pub food on the groundfloor and a restaurant upstairs too. Wonderful sunday roasts! I noticed there are a few board games knocking about which get quite a bit of use if the conversation is slow. They seem to have staffing issues (always advertising jobs on the board outside) but this has never affected the service any time i have been there.
