Reviews for The Golden Retriever Pub
We had been to the Golden Retriever a couple of times for an evening meal and decided to take the children there for Sunday lunch.
We arrived at 12:30 to be told that they had no highchairs available - the 2 they had were already in use, and we would have to wait for one to become available.
We accepted this and ordered a drink while we waited. We also asked whether we could pre-order our food to save time once a table was allocated. Unfortunately this was not possible. I then asked to see a copy of the children's menu. "We don't have one" was the answer and they then scribbled the kids options on the back of a till receipt.
An hour later and we finally saw a free highchair. Just as we were going to the bar to ask to be seated it was taken by one of the waiting staff.
We enquired whether we could now be seated only to be told that they still had no highchair. We asked what had happened to the highchair and were told that another customer was using it. We asked whether they had been waiting longer than us to be met with, well no but that waitress didn't know you were waiting for it.
All in all we were extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service we experienced. We went to our local Beefeater instead where the children were treated like the special little people they are and the food was excellent and served quickly.
When this pub first opened, it was good, the food and service couldn't be complained at for the price, but more recently, every time we've been here its been something of a disappointment really.
The prices seem to be going up, which is fair enough, but not when the quality of the food and especially the service is becoming something to complain about.
Still a nice cosy place to go if you're just wanting a drink or two!!
Had an excellent lunch here. Difficult to believe this "olde worldy" pub is new build. The service was efficient and friendly. Although this pub belongs to chain (M & B) the menu has plenty to tempt, was served attractively and hot and was good value and about average for this type of place (e.g. £7 -9 for a main course)
