Reviews for Fighting Fit City Gym
I've been coming to this gym ever since it opened, the staff are friendly and helpful and the gym has a lovely atmostphere.
I absolutely love coming to group training as i get to have a natter with my mates, but most of all have a really good work out.
I will occasionally come down and train by my self but i love the motivation of training with others.
I'm a 32 year old mum and i've got a better body now than when i was a teenager.
So this place gets the big thumbs up from me.
I have been a member of fighting fit for about 9 months now. I train in the classes and have a one to one with Wayne Evans each week.
Since joining lots of my friends have also signed up.
Fighting Fit really is a club. There is a great vibe down there. Everyone chats and helps each other out and the trainers are first class. There is no room for posing or arrogance like in some of the commercial gyms in town.
People can choose to use boxing training as a medium to improve their fitness or to actually prepare them for fights. I train there with a view to fighting. The white collar boxing squad sessions are great fun and awesome for comradery.
Above all else, since training at Fighting Fit my fitness and boxing have reached levels that I have not been able to attain at other gyms and other white collar clubs.
For all of the above reasons, I am a fan of this gym!
I've been a member of about four different gyms and this is the best by a country mile. I've never given up going and it's coming up to a year since I joined. How many gyms can you say that about?!
The staff are genuine and friendly. Their knowledge of fitness and boxing is oustanding. There aren't any plasma screens, saunas, etc because it's a real gym. You can't pose in here...you'll be too busy working hard!
The classes are a great way to get to know people there. All are made welcome. There's always a good amount of banter knocking around too.
Try the boxing too. Save money on therapy and just punch a heavy bag. You'll be amazed.
I joined three weeks ago, and am not regretting it. Had a nutrition plan drawn up for me at my first session (it was like a health and life coaching consultation!) and have been having one-to-one personal training with Craig bi-weekly. Already shifted 8 pounds and feel much better. Personal training is a real motivator, and whilst it seemed like an expensive luxury to start with, it motivates you to do more, and of course to use the equipment and free weights properly - I'm learning that all of the training I used to do in gyms may have been doing me more harm than good!
Atmosphere in the gym is great, and is perfect for those who put fitness before posing!
On what some people might see as downsides:
- It doesn't have saunas or jacuzzis or anything you might find at "a leisure club"
- Its tidy but is a little rough around the edges - the changing rooms were renovated last week, and it doesn't have the gloss of a Bannatyne's.
Upsides for me are:
- Its an independent business, not a faceless plc chain, and the sort of business that it feels good to support. It seems to have a bit of character because of it, and the owner is always around. Its clearly a gym run by passionate people, rather than wage slaves.
- The boxing - haven't tried it yet but once I've lost a few more pounds, I think I'll brave it. Most of the trainers are or were boxers apparently (and have noses to prove it!) and as well as classes, they also do sparring and can teach you to box. They do "White collar boxing shows" - I've missed the previous one, but like to think I could be handy in the ring.
- There's a load of free classes included in the membership fee.
Sorry if I've gone on a bit - I've just got back from a session, and am feeling psyched about things. In summary - its a proper gym - a place to get fit, lose weight and maybe even learn to box. If you want to pose or sit in a jacuzzi convincing yourself you're getting fit, then you probably won't like it. But I do!
I found a flyer on my car for this place and thought WOW that looks sooo cool, I have always fancied myself as the next million dollar baby! (joke). I have been past a couple of times to look but hadn't been in. Everytime it was very quiet, no more than three people working out. I eventually went on a saturday afternoon to find it was closed, which was annoying as I had made a special journey. doh!
I went back during the week and to be honest I found the guy quite rude, considering they are looking for new business. I felt very much out of my comfort zone as this fitness person bamboozled me with exercise jargon. "I only want to lose a little weight". I wont be going back.
Also the review from tommo333 isn't genuine, its straight from there website. rave safe kids.
I find it hard to believe myself and tommo333 are talking bout the same gym but here goes with my review.
I live in st pauls square close to this particular establishment so one evening after work I decided to check it out. Since moving to Birmingham from Dublin I have done very little exercise so this place would have been ideal for me.
It was around 7ish on a tuesday evening and there were two people working out and two trainers hanging around. I must have waited a couple of minutes before I was approached by a member of staff. I was given a brief tour of the gym then given a sales pitch by a pushy trainer.
In my opinion it is a lot of money for such a basic gym and the personal training is over-priced.
I have now joined bannantynes gym in the city centre which is roughly the same price but has lots of equipment and a pool and spar, punch bags etc.
If you want a pool and a spar then I am glad you have found yourself somewhere else, thats not what Fighting Fit is all about. You only have to check out our very positive press articles to see what this gym is all about.
Is £32 really that expensive for full access and over 20 classes a week?
