Reviews for IMAX

The imax in birmingham is quite different to most cinema's as it is in the thinktank and it is quite small. You often have to line up to get into any film and there isn't really a fresh popcorn stand which makes it seem less like a cinema.

However these are only the bad things about the cinema, the imax is very big and even if you see a film such as te dark knight where the film is only shot in the imax screen size for 30min, it really does immerse you in the film and its surprising how much of a difference it makes. Watching movies in 3D there also add a big difference and it's definitely worth going to even if you only go every once in a couple of months its a unique way to watch a movie which really immerses you into the film.

If you like variety in your cinema going habits, you should try IMAX.

It has a 50 foot screen which is much bigger than any other cinema you are likely to see, there is also the added dimension of three dimensional films.

These films are made especially for the IMAx cinema screen and only last for 45 minutes but they are really fun. You are handed 3d glasses when entering the screen by the ushers, when on the films becomes 3d, some moments are better than others, sometimes you find yourself ducking to avoid things seemingly coming out of the screen at you.

Its all jolly good fun and that is the aim of most of the films although there is an educational element to some of the films which is a good thing in my view.

My summary is a good viewing experience with a twist that is likely to appeal to all ages.

The imax is a good experience and they often do re runs of older films which are even more impresive than on the normal size screens. I saw The Matrix there and it was amazing to see it in such definition.

I don't recommend the 3D films though. After just 10 minutes of looking through the glasses I felt giddy and really really queasy. Quite a few of my friends felt the same so I know it wasn't just me! Saying that, they do some amazing 3D films- In Space, In the Body etc.

If you are going to the Imax then combine it with a trip to the Think Tank- the most fun science you'll ever come accross!

This is situated oposite the thinktank in Birmingham, a short walk from Moore St train station, several bus stops and also has a large car park. Although when I haev driven I have parked in the car park next to the station as its much cheaper than its car park. I have usually gone here as a day out and combined it with the thinktank. Have gone just to go to the Imax, the last time without going to thinktank was to see Harry Potter! The screen is unbelievably massive and really makes seeing a film an enjoyable experience. The sound and picture is superb and can not be comparred. The only tips I can offer you is dont sit too close to the front thinking you will get a better view as when I have sat in the middle I think its better from there. The seats are comfortable with lots of leg room and although more expensive than the cinema its worth going to for a treat!
