Reviews for Birmingham Hippodrome
I too love the Hippodrome. It's an old-fashioned style of theatre that has been thoroughly updated to meet modern needs. The auditorium is still the same (to me anyway) as it was when I saw Cinderella there over 40 years ago! It is air-conditioned which means that it doesn't get overpoweringly stuffy as with many older theatres, but it can be a little chilly sometimes.
Attached to the theatre is a very good restaurant which is open for pre-theatre dinners. A la carte and also a good value set menu is on offer (2 or 3 courses). Your table is reserved for you throughout the evening so that you can take your dessert or coffee back at your table - better than the scrum for ice-creams!
Parking available nearby.
I love the Birmingham Hippodrome. It's a great place to take all the family, depending on the show that is on. I take my grandchildren every year to see the pantomime. This year it is going to be Robin Hood, with the gorgeous John Barrowman! We are all looking forward to that one!
The Hipodrome itself, is a very comfortable place to be. The seats are not too bad to sit in, so not too much fidgeting! There is a bar, for those that like a tipple, and there is a place to buy sweets too [although I take my own sweets as they can be quite expensive if bought at The Hippodrome.
The Hippodrome caters for all disabled people, e.g. hard of hearing, visually impaired, mobility impaired etc.
The Hippodrome is not just for shows though, it has been used for different conferences and events in the past few years.
If there is a big group in your party, you can even arrange to have a meal before the show. The Birmingham Hippodrome will cater for that too.
All in all, The Birmingham Hippodrome is a great place to bring the family for a thoroughly lovely time out! Everyone will enjoy themselves, the staff are very helpful and friendly too. It's easily accessible from the railway stations at New street, and also Snow Hill.
Give it a try, you won't regret it!
Ideally located with a car park nearby (although this is a nightmare to get out of after shows!) and is fairly expensive so it is worth looking into public transport as bus and train routes are all within walking distance. Taxis are always at the corner of Hurst Street too. Good variety of shows and have been to the Christmas pantos last two years and going again this year. This years is Robin Hood with John Barrowman from Doctor Who / Torchwood fame! Staff are always helpful. Prices are reasonable for tickets and drinks / ice creams at intermissions. The seats are comfortable with lots of leg room. Have always sat in the stalls and never had a restricted view
