Squirrel yourself into a (themed) corner....

If you want an unusual, cosy place to tuck yourself into a corner and talk the evening away, come here. Decorated in incredible style (all eras and styles vie for space on the walls, ceilings and furnishings) and with a low light atmosphere, this has long been a favourite haunt of mine for relaxed or special drinks.

Although pricier than the local wetherspoons, but very often nearly as packed, the lack of overbearing music makes this an ideal place for earnest conversation. Although known as a wine bar, there are drinks of all descriptions, plus standard fare pub food. Bacchus attracts a varied crowd, but being an over 21 bar you also miss tend to miss the crowds of pre-club teenagers, which is always a bonus!

In short, you must visit Bacchus at least once – mainly just to marvel at the décor!

    Great decor

Bacchus Bar has a fantastic atmosphere. It is underground in an old wine cellar. There is a room decorated like an Egyptian tomb and the main room is decorated in antique roman and Greek style. The decoration is very impressive. It can be busy on the weekends and draws in a big after work crowd but it is often easy to get a seat. They also serve very good food. They have a good selection of spirits and an impressive wine list. It can seem a bit posh when you first walk in but you soon realise that it is actually quite relaxed and friendly. I don't think they have any music in there and the crowd in a mixture off all ages but not often students and the prices are a little higher than in some bars (but well worth it).
