    Reasonably priced food
    Current
I quite like the Square Peg for a lunchtime meal whilst out and about in town.

The central location makes it an ideal place to grab a bite to eat. The atmosphere is quite lively with an eclectic mix of people. As it is a Wetherspoons you know you are going to get a great priced meal and their drinks are quite well priced.

It was always quite a smoky place but since the smoking ban is a lot more pleasant.

They have a really long bar but many staff so it is easy to get served.

I have been many times and never witnessed any trouble, even on the local football teams match days.

    Not so good anymore...
    Current
This place used to be a good stop for a cheap meal, a cheap cocktail or drink and a good start to a night out.

In past years it has seemed to go downhill - the food is dismal (despite getting more expensive and smaller in portion size, as in all Wetherspoons), and it has gathered a bit of a reputation for being a bit 'rough', with scuffles often breaking out between inebriated groups of drinkers.

At lunch time, it is still passable if you do want to brave the food (the chicken pasta and jacket potatoes are alright) and fancy a cheap, quick bite to eat, say while shopping. I would not recommend it for night – go instead to the Briar Rose which is still central but a nicer atmosphere..

    Typical city centre Wetherspoons
    Current
The Square Peg is a popular city centre pub and is in a good position to pop in for a drink while out shopping.

As all Wetherspoons, there is no music, so it's quite a good place to meet a friend for a chat.

It has a very long bar, and a good selection of drinks.

The pub is popular with all sorts of people, old men reading the paper, workmen, couples, middle aged women.

The toilets are nice and clean, and it never takes too long to get served.

The food on offer is okay, the same as Wetherspoons everywhere, with sandwiches, burgers, steaks and so on.

The Square Peg isn't very exciting or atmospheric, but it's a decent enough place for a drink or to have a cheap meal.
