Compared to other Bars in Selly Oak, the Gun Barrels is severely lacking.

On more than one occasion my food has taken over an hour to be served, even when prompting the staff and one of my friends meals did not even turn up once. I have also heard about this happening to other people.
The drinks are what you would expect price wise of a scream pub, especially if you have a yellow card.
It gets extremely busy and the bars are often understaffed meaning that it can take a long time to get served.

The pub s interior is also very dingy and is certainly lacking compared to other pubs in Selly Oak.

The Gunnies is one of the most adored pubs in Selly Oak. Less than 5 minutes from most lecture halls, it is full of students, all day, everyday.
Monday evenings offer '£1 a pint' and by 10pm, the queue for entry turns into 'one in, one out'.
A large pub, with a long bar, so it doesn't take too long to get served. Food is also pretty good and reasonable, but you can be left waiting quite a while, when the pub is busy.
It has a large beer garden, great for the summer, and has great drinks prices.
You can also pay £1 for a 'Yellow Card' which gives you money off drinks for the whole year, and is DEFINITELY worth a purchase!

I have visited gun barrels on bristol st on a couple of occasion when i've been in the area and found it to be an ok watering hole, first thing you notice is the student influence on the place, its like gatecrashing a student halls of residence with a bar in it.

On the occasions i visited it was middle of the day and the place was very chilled out and relaxed, there are a couple of pool tables and its has a large space with plenty of places to sit. The staff were good and got served fairly quickly and prices were average, they do have special nights where the beer is cheaper, probably to accommodate the mainly student customer base. This is natural as its located very close to birmingham university.

If you are a student about to start at birmingham university this term get yourself down there, if only to check it out.

Been going to the Barrels now for nearly a year and have loved every minute of it.

Only normally go on a monday night as it is student night and a pound a pint too! :) The atmosphere here is very good and plenty of space in the beer garden out the back which is heated too for us smokers!

The bar staff are pretty friendly and chatty and the people are mostly friendly who drink in here and you can chat to just about anyone here and have a drink and a laugh with them. one of the best places in selly oak.

Well what can say about the gun barrells its a superb bar, Great and friendly atmosphere, bar staff are amazing. Food is cheap but tasty. Has plenty of pool tables andgames machines and a large outdoor area. Great place to start or spend the night.
