Reviews for Zen
I dine here often, the food is great, but portions seem to be either to large or too small, focusing more on the display of the plate, than the actual quaintity.
I also find, if you dine upstairs, you ALWAYS get a lovely waiter/waitress, were as downstairs it's really hit & miss.
All around, the best Japanese in Belfast, a real treat.
Went here to celebrate holidays off work! Very dark interior, looks very like a niteclub, fake plants and neon lights, front door propped open by huge slab of wood...odd.
Food was very pleasant but expensive, service was good, just a few people when we went. It is tucked away in a part of town that is very quiet at night.
We decided to stay on for cocktails, they were very dear for Belfast! Around £7 a pop, but nice (They'd have to be!)
There are much nicer places for a comparable meal, it has quite a cold atmosphere but could be worth a try, other people I know have loved it. Perhaps it's not just for me.
Went to Zen for a works event with ten other people. The entrance is beautiful and the service is so good. We were immediatley escorted up the impressive stair case to a private booth. The mirrored decor is stunning. We sat at a low table and slippers were provided. We decided to order a selection of 10 set menus which included sushi and tempura to start. Both were delicious and as I had never eaten sushi before I was immediately converted. Next a selection of curries, spiced steak and delicious tender fish arrived along with bowlfuls of fluffy white rice. Everyone at the table tried chopsticks but a few gave in and requested forks! Afterwards we all had the refreshing green tea ice-cream. I would thoroughly recommend Zen for a large group even though it may be a bit pricey - it is certainly worth it as a treat for special occasions.
