Wetherspoons

Reviews for Wetherspoons

The Bridge House, as it was formerly known before it was taken over by the Wetherspoons group, is pretty much exactly what you expect from the chain. There is a huge amount of space in there, with lots of seating, and a long bar, catering for the saturday night crowd, at which point it’s packed. This is the place to go if you’re a student looking cheap grub and cheaper drink, but it’s also the place to go if you want a fight at the end of the night. Cheap drink does unfortunately draw in a cheap clientele, and the atmosphere in the pub is never a particularly welcoming one. Frequently crowded and bunged, it’s the prime stop off point for the saturday night clubbers, and as such, can sometimes be quite dodgy. On the plus side, if you’re stopping off for a few drinks after work, or a meal before a night out, it’s quite hard to beat. Just stay away from the red wine. Although cheap at £1.49 a glass, it’s poured via a tap from a keg. Yikes.

I me my mum and husband in weatherspoons for the first time recently with my toddler too. We sat and waited for a while to be served, then realised you place your order at the bar. When we got to the bar they asked for our table number so we had to go back and get it - so less one to eating in Weatherspoons is - grab a table, note the number and go to the bar!! We ordered food and there were lots of special offers on that hadnt been on the menu but the barman told us and we took a couple of the suggestions (drink with Panini and salad for £299 for example). Once we sat down again a staff member approached us and asked us to move into the family area because we had a child with us. I questioned why this was nececssary and was told it was "in case anything kicks off"!!! This did not instill confidence so we upped and moved to a quiet corner dedicated to families, but which also had a slightly drunk looking old man propping himself up on the arm of a sofa. However, when the food arrived it looked great, was generous in size and tasted fantastic - so for the 3 of us (plus chip stealing toddler!) we ate and drank for about £13 for lunch - cant complain really, although it has to be said the image isnt great especially when the staff warn you something could kick off at any moment! This could be something they should work on.
