Reviews for The Woolpack
This gastro country pub and eating house has recently been very stylishly refurbished and is located on the outskirts of Stoke Mandeville. You’ll normally recognise it in the summer because the beer garden is out the front and the white table canopies are huge.

They have an ecliptic mix of the old oak beams, wood floors and an open fireplace mixed with modern wall sculptures and lighting. Sounds weird, but it works very well to create a relaxing atmosphere. Not everyone's 'cup of tea' but personnally I like it.
I have had a couple of lunches here and I must say that the food is very good. As well as the regular everyday items like pizzas, fish and chips and burgers, they also mix the menu with some more off-beat contemporary items to ensure that there is always something for everyone.
We have been here quite a few times over the last couple of years and every time we leave with the same opinion..it's pretentious.
This used to be a village pub serving traditional food and about two years ago it opened as a gastro pub.
When we last went we had the spit roast chicken and a special of swordfish. The swordfish was overcooked and the chicken wasn't much better.
It took an hour and a half to get our food even though the restaurant was less than half full. The worst though was one of the waiting staff who was arrogant and rude. He felt it appropriate to confide in us his dislike of one of the other customers even though we had never met him before...made us wonder what he was saying about us!
Having said all that the female waitresses were lovely and very attentive and the lady on the next table had fish and chips which looked lovely. But don't expect it to be cheap with a fillet steak at £18.50 and lamb chops at £14 with vegetables extra it could be an expensive experience which you don't mind if you're getting something special. But there are other places near with comparable food at cheaper prices.
