Reviews for The Potters Arms
So glad i found this review page, i believe it was june last year 2008 i went with my family too eat on a sunday lunch time. The decour was quite awful a zebra couch in the middle of the main bar and sports shirts hanging all over the walls what on earth were they thinking, they have a stunning country pub which by the looks of it they have turned into a very cheap and tacky town centre pub for builders. Firstly the food was top class a really good menu short but very english in its basis. i would assume its shortness was due to the fact it was all fresh. The sunday lunch we ate was incredily good, beef was perfectly cooked for a topside (not the greatest cut of beef) the yorkshire puddings were huge and obviously not aunt bessies, the vegetables and potatoes were fantastic really nice to see someone paying as much attention to the veg as the rest of the meal. We then ate our way through the dessert menu once again short but all fresh i would think, the lemon tart in fact was wonderful almost as good as the one i had eaten many years earlier in marco pierre whites harveys restaurant back in the late 80s really that good. All in all food was brilliant and well worth a detour. Now let me get onto the service and what i can only describe as the worst welcome i have ever experienced. I would assume that the rather misserble gentlemen behind the bar was the landlord, my god when i introduced myself at the bar and announced i had a table booked it was as if we were a real hassle to him and throughout the meal he was rude not only to myself but my wife and mother in law, the landlady then introduced herself as she was serving the food, when we asked for horseradish once again we were made to feel very uncomfortable by our quite simple request. Then there was the dog a rather large and smelly labrador, not only did it sit at my side begging for food for the duration of my meal but was then called into the kitchen by the miserable landlord, i hate to think of the state of the kitchen with dog hair everywhere, quite quite awful. The food here was very very good but the ambience the service and the propiertiers were all shambollick, i really do wish these sorts of people would stick to running east end working mens pubs not very beautiful country pubs. Go for the food nothing else.
the Potters Arms has a brand new chef with a fab new menu which includes seasonal produce. The food is handmade and not frozen which as i understand is a massive turnaround. The new chef has come from a varied background, having worked both for large hotels and various restaurants. With a background of over 10 years experiance, i think you will find it a real joy to eat here. There is a Sunday roast on the menu which i have sampled, and i must say, i was extremely happy!! regarding the previous review mentioning the pub dog Sheba, she did not enter the dining room at all whilst i was dining and ever time i have been to the Potters Arms, she has been in the public bar area and not anywhere near the restaurant or kitchen area.
Went for a meal on friday night, as the pub has tried to turn itself into a foodie place, the food was just OK, a bit to much frozen bits for my liking, but the thing that has turned me off the place completly was the dog being behind the bar then allowed into the resturaunt when we had finished eating. It is not hyginic to have it behind the bar but i understand that in some pubs that is normal, but as i'm finishing a main course i don't expect a dog to be begging for left overs.
ok food , but please sort out the hound!!
Fantastic pub! Just been taken over by the best landlord and lady in the area by far. Professional friendly staff with the best food around! A ‘must visit’ for everyone !
