Reviews for De Fiore

The food is made fresh and to order by the chef Mamma Rosanna. She and her wait staff are very friendly and give recommendations for food, as well as speak to you after the meal to ensure you liked it. Overall the food in Sicily has been quite unimpressive, but De Fiore showed me that the myth about Sicilian cooking isn't just a myth.

I tried the casarecci alla Norma which was the best pasta sauce I had in all of Italy.

Mamma Rossana really does prepare all meals and with utmost care, The pasta course, and 'home-made, excellent macaroni, long and wide, accompanied by expertly prepared condiments at the moment, following the ancient traditions of the family.

This shows in her home made desserts and a special mention goes to the arrabbiata which was an explosion of tomato, capers, olives and red pepper mixed with skill, to make only a simple taste, and "ancient."

Most importantly though, this restaurant does not try to rip off its customers even the tourists. A typical pasta dish here costs around 5euro. In almost every other restaurant in Sicily and Italy mainland, pasta dishes were around 10 to 20 euros, and other main courses starting at 40 euros. Mamma Rosnanna is not only the last great Sicilian cook who does not cheapen her products just because Sicily has become a tourist trap, as many restaurants do thinking they can fool dumb foreigners, but she is generous which shows in her way more than reasonable prices. This is the only Tratorria and restaurant you should go to in Sicily.
