I can't really find a big difference between East 38 and its predecessor the restaurant named avant-garde, except for the graffiti outside and a menu change, it really seems to be the same place.

Which isn't a bad thing.

The food is pretty good, mostly meat subs/sandwiches and steak platters (with some salads and Italian dishes for the girls). Deep friend appetizers and sports on plasma TVs and anything else that goes with beer is served, but the place is still more of a place to come eat dead cows than to watch the game.

The service is usually excellent and all in all it's a cool place to hang out with some carnivores friends. BEWARE the servings are huge so share your appetizers!
