Reviews for Kastanien Hotel

There are two main personality traits you will need in order to enjoy your stay at the Kastanien Hotel.

1/ an open mind
2/ a penchant for the outrageously tacky

This hotel is an ex-brothel and you can REALLY tell. The owners have left a lot of the original decor and design, which left me slightly worried on arrival.... all that kept going through my head was - "is it STILL a brothel??"

Once you get over the initial shock of the pink walls, greek statues and numerous tacky mirrors, you begin to love the place.
Our double room was 50euro per night plus 3euro for bed linen. No breakfast or any frills but a comfortable bed with sink and shared bathroom.
The bathroom was possibly the best bit - huge orgy inspired baths, gilded mirrors, more greek statues. Honestly, you will be laughing at the utter lack of taste. It was amazing.

The staff are lovely. We had a drink at the hotel bar one night (they sell a bottled beer for 1.50 - it's 6% alcohol!!)and chatted to the owner a bit. She informed us that she had only taken the place over in September 2008 - until then it had been a fully operating brothel for 20 yrs.

Situated a stones throw from the debauchery of The Reeperbahn, you really fit in with the surroundings in this hotel.
I think it's a fabulous idea!

That is funny! Especially the bathroom bit. Not sure that I get what the little krypt is for, behind the champagne glass in your pic.

That is the little 'teasing window' on the front door.
The ladies would peep through that little door, in order to titillate the minds of lucky customers outside! haha

Aha! It makes perfect sense now ;-0
