A Place Stuck in Time
I still remember the first time I came to La Gauloise to treat my mom and brother to a very traditional French meal. The decoration is Brasserie type with pictures of famous French and international stars and politicians lining the walls. The food was marvelous and was always on target to meeting your expectations of great French food. The service was efficient and professional.
For the past 5 years I've returned back to La Gauloise at least once a year. This year, 2008, was the last. Why? Well the food is still over very good quality, but that night the service was quite poor. The waiter was pretty much typical of the bad "garcon" that foreigners have of French restaurants and cafes. You could tell that he simply hated the world.
But that wasn't it that changed my opinion. The menu simply hasn't changed. In the last 5 years this restaurant still serves exactly the same food, which whilst good is always the same. Looking at the menu and the decoration of the place it made me feel as though La Gauloise felt old, like if it was stuck in time as those black and white pictures that adorned the wall.
I've enjoyed going to La Gauloise, but this time I'm afraid was my last. So why 3 stars, because for the last 5 years it has served me well.
