As She Stood..
Having read London's review below I had to add mine as numerous memories came rushing in. The Eiffel Tower isn't just a must see for tourist but it also has a special place in the hearts of most Parisians. The interesting thing about the Eiffel Tower is that it never was meant to be a permanent structure. The tower was built between 1887 and 1889 as the entrance arch for the Exposition Universelle, a World's Fair marking the centennial celebration of the French Revolution. 20 years after it was built it was meant to be dismantled but it has remained.
Anyway back to my childhood story. When I was 8 the school I used to go (Thomas Jefferson School) organized a trip to the tower. We all went up the elevators to the last floor and then we would dare ourselves to run and crash against the security gates whilst watching Paris swoop just under you... very fun but very scary experience, one which I probably wouldn't dare myself to do now! After that we ran, jogged, then walked down the 686 steps.
If you're not a young child or don't feel like running and crashing on the security gates on the last floor then I'd recommend you go under the Eiffel Tower (in the gravel pit), straight in the middle... lift your head up and focus on the center, then spread your arms out and start spinning... loads of fun! Don't believe me grab a friend and do it together ;-)
In any case I love the Eiffel Tower and every time I go back home I look forward to watching it sparkle at night like a christmas tree.
you have done the unthinkable and made la tour romantic. I will see it in a whole different light when i next go there :)
