"The History of York is the history of England" said George VI and he probably has a point!
The City of York is one of England's most historic cities with a history dating back almost 2000 years to AD71 when the Romans founded Eboracum. Successive AngloSaxon, Viking and Norman invasions added to the city's colourful history.
York has been involved in most of the important events in British history: The Romans based several of their Emperors there, William the Conqueror attacked the city during The Norman Conquest, and during The Civil War a major battle was fought there & Charles I even established the Royal Court there, moving it from London.
Something then for everyone and that's why its so popular.
