And with neighbours Clapham and Brixton currently topping all the cool charts, its not hard to see why Stockwell stays in the shadows. Plaudits are quick to point out that Stockwell is an example of true London; residential, a mixed community and not showy. Yet that’s hardly of much interest to those looking for an exciting evening out. Its vast Portuguese community, however, are a major asset and their influence is felt within the sprinkling of restaurants and café’s; Bar Madeira is great for some Mediterranean seafood. The Royal Albert, meanwhile, is a locals favourite bar; trendy yet traditional.
