If there was an award for the greatest revival then Notting Hill would surely be a contender. A stylish celebrity hang out and home to a Carnival bettered only by Rios street festival experts, it bears little resemblance to the multi-occupied, massive slum of the mid 20th century. The area can strike you as one that is famous for being famous, particularly due to its appearance in a certain big screen hit. Beyond a hapless bookstore owner, however, Notting Hill has an awful lot to offer. Portobello Market is the place to be on Saturday attracting antique hunters from around the globe. The increasing North African population have added their flavours to the restaurants of Golborne Road and the upmarket boutiques of Westbourne Grove are complemented by a more alternative atmosphere around Notting Hill Gate. Oh and if you really are only heading there on a Hugh Grant fuelled pilgrimage, well good news Travel Bookshop actually exists!
