To most Londoners, the area of Kings Cross remains synonymous with drug taking and prostitution and, admittedly, despite regeneration efforts, the area still retained a rather down at heel feel to it. This is changing. As WC1's neighbour, Camden, becomes increasing expensive, formerly disused station warehouses are quickly being converted into cheap studios for artists and designers, and homebuyers are looking beyond the area's reputation at its central location and relatively cheap flats; all of which indicate that Kings Cross is fast becoming a cool destination. The area's leisure scene is still being established and, at the moment, choices are fairly limited but include the ever-popular La Scala nightclub. New venues and club nights are springing up all the time. There are plenty of inexpensive cafes and coffee bars, and, away from the station concourse, a few traditional pubs can be found.
