Situated a mere stones throw from one of London’s pinnacles of cool, you might have expected Kentish Town to jump on the bandwagon and become another haven of music, markets and alternative venues . The area is in fact fiercely independent. In no way is this better demonstrated than the stores which line its streets; over two thirds are still locally owned including the organic Earth Natural Foods and top quality delicatessen Flavours. There’s also quite the cultural air here; the Torriano Poets still hold weekly recitals. Before you start thinking it’s Camden’s silent neighbour, Kentish Town is actually well regarded for its pubs. Try the Bull and Gate to see if you’ll be the first to witness an up and coming star, Blur and Coldplay both played here in their early days or head to the Castle on a Sunday for some mid afternoon partying. And as for restaurants you are spoilt for choice, with two of London’s best Ethiopian’s situated here.
