In the middle of the City and the West End sits the slightly rakish district of Holborn. Traditionally, the preferred haunt of London's lawyers and journalists, the area has unsurprisingly long established itself as an oasis of quirky pubs and watering holes. An area at one time famous for harbouring prostitutes and associated lowlifes, Holborn has even now remained unwilling to stamp itself on to the London 'tourist trail' and as such is one of the few parts of the city in which it is possible to go for a relatively quiet meal or drink. Traditional English pubs such as The Lamb and The White Hart nestle comfortably alongside the modern Brazilian bar, Guanabara. There are plentiful restaurants from the upmarket Sushi Hiroba to the excellent Fryer's Delight for traditional English fish and chips. For those seeking late night entertainment, London's Theatreland, Covent Garden and West End are within walking distance.
