And indeed, the area has maintained a small town like atmosphere, relatively untouched by the renovation trend sweeping over London. As you might expect from somewhere that was wooded and hilly until the mid 19th century, it is very green and the views from the top of Forest Hill itself are incredible. The famous Horniman Museum is its major attraction, housing one of the most diverse collections of taxidermy available worldwide. More the type of place to relax than to rave (but with trendy East Dulwich nearby that doesnt prove a problem), shops are of the small and interesting variety, restaurants are few but well varied and its pubs continue with the lazy feel - Foresters Bar is a live jazz venue- whilst the Dartmouth Arms is ranked as one of the best gastro-pubs around.
