An eyesore of a shopping centre, a reputation for being rough and a distinctive lack of attractive streets have seen Elephant and Castle dismissed as just another unremarkable inner London area. Yet with some of the top transport links around, the popular Ministry of Sound nightclub within its bounds and an energetic, young and ethnic population, there are lots of reasons to be positive. And its favourable positioning and indeed the regeneration programme currently under construction, have ensured that the glamour of the West End and the City has begun to spill over. The result of this is best highlighted in the areas restaurants; a number of which stand out from their dire backdrop. The Dragon Castle is particularly recommended having received praise from all over London for its Cantonese dishes. The shopping centre, meanwhile, might not be up to much but the stalls outside have unusual items on sale, especially a range of ‘lotions and potions’ that make some magical promises. Unremarkable? Interesting sounds more accurate.
