And whilst those of us, unfamiliar with South Londons most famous town, may put this down to local bias, as it becomes more trendy and recognised, there is no doubt that Brixton has got something going for it. Relaxing yet always buzzing, soulful but electric, the area personifies that of a united, involved community which has risen above the infamous riots of previous decades. Brixtons major asset is its nightlife; The Carling Academy voted Londons top live music venue, regularly houses some of the worlds greatest acts. For hardcore clubbers, its open until 6am. Arabic themed club Babalou serves exotic snacks and creative cocktails. Not a night person? The famous Brixton Market offers a culturally rewarding experience, containing no less than 300 stalls and specialising in Caribbean produce. There's a fantastic mix of exotic cuisine, bargain price clothes and retro items. Oh and on top of all that it has some of the best transport links in London.
