The best thing about Brent Cross Shopping Centre is the free parking. You have outdoor and indoor parking.

If you are a passenger waiting for family to pick you up at the door of Fenwick's in the car, there's a double door so you can shelter. But no seats. Unless you wait in Carluccio's restaurant. Store and restaurant hours are different to the centre itself. Many eating places take last orders and clear up before the centre closes.

Inside the Centre's smart and elegant, with a well-dressed crowd of people. The polite sort who smile and apologise if you bump into them, or trip over them, and tell their zig-zagging children and backing toddlers to 'mind the lady'.

The two big department stores are either end. The information desk in the middle has a leaflet on all the shops and the parking. You've got Waitrose, Marks & Spencer, Boots and Smiths. Plus lots of fashion shops including Rigby and Peller for underwear.

For eating you've a dozen places scattered about. On the lower level Costa's is at one end, Starbucks at the the other. Upstairs Fenwicks has Harry Morgan's, Frank B's and a donut place. W H Smiths has another Costa.

John Lewis offers Place to Eat. On the second level is Yo Sushi. On the third level side mall grouped in a semi-circle around the escalator are several more, including Vallorini's, and Wagawama.

Shops include Marks & Spencer, the White shop, an Apple Store where you can buy ipods, workshops, and for an annual fee get weekly lessons on your Apple MacBook, or technical support at the Genius bar.

At weekends on the upper level of Fenwicks in the toy section a lady demonstrated using a colouring set (£10) spraying paints which change colour on the page so you can make patterns or use the stencils.

Buses pull up outside. There's a station nearby. The shopping centre has a website listing the eating places and giving other information. In the area are the Holiday Inn hotel, the Shopping Park with Border containing a big Starbucks with views.
