Media Sales and Business Development Director

TrustedPlaces Overview

TrustedPlaces is a social network focused on local reviews, where people share their opinion on local businesses and discover new ones through other people's recommendations. Most of the content our users are passionate about is places such as restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs and other lifestyle and entertainment locations. Since starting up in September 2006 we have become one of the recognised leaders in our area; enjoyed explosive growth in the last six months and have regularly featured in the relevant press. Responsibilities

We've spent out first year working on the product and our community of users that bring TrustedPlaces to life. We're now looking for a commercially minded individual that can drive our partnership and monetisation efforts. Given the startup nature of the business and size of the team, you'll be working directly with the founders, closely influencing the strategy and direction of the company. As we grow, so will your role and responsibilities, but here are the main ones to start with:

  • Identify potential partners for TrustedPlaces; focusing on content syndication and distribution
  • You will get seek out those partners; define proposition; close deal; manage execution and post-deal relationship
  • Create, implement and own the sales pipeline
  • Identify and approach suitable brand advertisers for TrustedPlaces, working with them on innovative ways to engage with the TrustedPlaces audience
  • Work both with media buying agencies and clients directly

Overall you are expected to raise the profile and distribution potential of the company and meet aggressive revenue targets. It won't be easy, but we promise it will be fun and very rewarding if we get it right.

The Ideal Person

You know you're great for the job if you have/are:

  • Experience in working with major brands, media buying agencies and other key stakeholders within an online environment
  • A consultative approach to selling and strong focus on results
  • A rich rolodex coupled with a natural flair in picking up the phone and cold calling
  • Ability to work out win-win relationships and bring in partners quickly
  • Understanding of what works on and off-line
  • Desire to make a difference; you relish the opportunity to try things in new and innovative ways
  • Fun to work with – we have a lot to do, and we'll be spending a lot of time together. If we can't all get on and have some great fun along the way, then it won't work
  • Passionate about communities, social networking, and web2.0 principles – you live and breathe this space
