Happy Hanukkah!

Hanukkah is the Jewish Festival of Lights, a holiday which began at sundown yesterday and runs for the next eight days. Food is central to Hanukkah, particularly fried food especially the famed Jewish potato latkes. Dairy is an important feature too. If you fancy exploring the food of Hanukkah, or if you’re Jewish and looking somewhere to go and celebrate, there’s lots of places in London that you could try.

One of the most popular and most reviewed places on TrustedPlaces, the Brick Lane Beigel Bake, scoring an average of 4.6 out of 5 over 34 ratings, serves some of the best beigels in London. chrisp says that it’s: “London’s worst kept secret. It doesn’t sound particularly appetising does it, salty beef. But try and imagine half a dozen generous slabs of juicy pink flesh, tasty rather than overly salty, bursting out of a georgeously soft fresh beigel (they churn them out at an incredible rate, so they will generally be very fresh), zinging with fiery English mustard and with a couple of gherkins on the side.”

Bloom’s Kosher Restaurant in Golder’s Green is a traditional kosher restaurant. Gidz says: “Food is rather expensive if you eat in but the take away is very cheap and quick. The burgers are probably the best kosher burgers in London and the chicken soup is definetly worth getting.”

Dizengoff Restaurant, also in Golder’s Green, is another London kosher restaurant. Silverbrow thinks that it might be the best in London. He says that this “might not be saying much, but the food here is very good. Simple grilled meats with great salads.”

Harry Morgan in Market Place, central London, is a great spot for a bowl of salubrious chicken soup. Bellaphon loves going there. He says: “When you find yourself in times of trouble or feeling an absolute downer there’s absolutely nothing better than a heart-warming bowl of chicken soup as a remedy. Especially so if this delicious concoction is additionally laden with Kneidlach (matzo ball), Kreplach (beef dumpling) and the all-important noodles to achieve that Full Monty effect.”
