An interview with Hummus Bros!

We’ve got lots of great and popular places on TrustedPlaces: quirky restaurants, late bars, pubs and clubs. Places that you love and review. We thought it might be interesting to meet the people behind the place and interview them, to find out how exactly it all came together.

We’re starting with Hummus Bros, the UK’s first hummus bar. With two venues and a third opening soon, it’s a popular spot. You gave it an average of 5 stars. We met up with the guys behind it and asked them how it all started and what’s the secret with their hummus?!

How did you get started?

The idea for hummus bros came about when 2 college friends (Christian and Ronen) kept eating hummus and pitta bread as their staple diet combined with a variety of dishes – meats, salads etc. They then started selling their hummus and toppings in markets around london in order to get feedback on their recipes and concept. In August 2005 the first hummus bros opened in Soho – and the rest is history…

Why hummus?

First and foremost – because we absolutely love the taste of it. It’s healthy (without trying to be healthy – i.e. it tastes great AND is healthy). Its filling (low GI, keeps you going for longer), and can be combined with virtually anything (vegetarian, vegan or meaty)!

What’s your most popular dish?

Vegetarian: guacamole/hot mushroom stew topped hummus, meaty: chicken topped hummus.

Without giving away your secrets, have you any tips for hummus making?

Use the smallest chickpeas and choose the best quality tahini – that makes the real difference.

Have you been to Hummus Bros? Write a review.
