TrustedPlaces Day of the Dead Party at Chilango

The long awaited TrustedPlaces Day of the Dead Party arrived last Friday. Fifty TrustedPlaces members descended on Chilango, a great new Mexican restaurant in Fleet St for the occasional fright, fun, burrito’s and lots of tequila. Some arrived in fantastic fancy dress! It was a great opportunity to meet up and chat and put faces to those profile pics.

The staff at Chilango were brilliant, perfect hosts, and put on a fine spread of delicious nachos and dips and beers a plenty. We started with these and tequila cocktails, supplied by Hornitos. Yum yum! Then it was time for burritos and tacos which were really very good and we’ll be going back for more. When the party was in full swing we were treated to a very entertaining talk by a gentleman from the Mexican Tourist Board about the Day of the Dead, a traditional Mexican holiday that celebrates the dead, the innocent children on November 1st and the adults on November 2nd. They leave offerings of toys for the children and tequila, mezcal or other such offerings for the adults. A banquet is prepared for the dead and it is believed that they eat the spiritual essence of the food that night and that there is no nourishment remaining the next day. It’s fascinating.

Heartfelt thanks to the guys at Chilango for putting on such a brilliant night: skeletons, food, beers and that talk! Also to Hornitos for that lovely Sauza tequila.

We’ve lots of photos on flickr, as always, take a look! If you have some photos from the night, we’d love you to add them to our flickr group. We’ve a video on the way too, so watch this space!
Have you been to Chilango? What did you think? Add a review! Have you been to other favourite Mexican restaurants? Make sure you tell us all about them, we want to know so that we can try them too!
