Tips for Notting Hill this weekend

Heading to the Notting Hill carnival this weekend? Wondering where to go? We’ve got some ideas that might help you out.

Fancy a few drinks? Westbourne Studios is a popular spot, guerilla1 thinks it’s the best bar in West London. What about the tasty cocktails recommended by Mez at E & O? Or Mau Mau Bar for lovers of soul/latin/jazz/samba/jazz fusion it’s a wicked little venue & always a friendly atmosphere as recommended by x3dre. You could always go for some pints and a thai at The Churchill Arms, hammersgirl1 thinks the number one spot in London for pub and food with an added bonus of having an historical charm.

How about a bite to eat? rusty83 loved Beach Blanket Babylon, “Overall I was very impressed with this restaurant, the food is brilliantly cooked, the wines are very palatable and the décor and atmosphere adds to the experience. I would definitely come back here!” What about some Brazilian BBQ at Rodizio Rico? Dharminder has been there a few times and “its a great start to a lads night out”. For something lighter, the pancakes at 202 cafe come highly recommended by benzevenbergen.

Fancy a boogie? The Notting Hill Arts Club is a favourite in our community, nancygiirl86 gives it 5 stars and “would definetely recommend Notting Hill Arts Club to anyone”.

I know this site is more about venues, but I can’t let talk of Notting Hill Carnival pass without mentioning a couple of my favourite Carnival sound systems. So here goes:

Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues, outside The Globe, 103 Talbot Road. Classic ska, revival, rockin’ blues and whatever else the charismatic Gaz Mayall feels like playing, along with his ska band, The Trojans.

Good Times, West Row (right at the top end of Portobello Road). Norman Jay MBE spins has party set of classic disco, soul and funky house and generally demonstrates to us all why he deserves his MBE.

Channel One. Just around he corner from Gaz, on Leamington Road Villas, heavy roots and dub from Channel One’s stacks make your rib cage vibrate and your feet feel like they’re barely touching the ground.

    Just my 3 favourites!

    Thanks for the tips!

Well well well - did anyone go? I went on Sunday. Not the best idea of the organisers to put Norman Jay next to Sancho Panza; we couldn’t get anywhere near it, and the police wouldn’t let anyone in “for fear of crushing”. Cripes!

Hi Lizzie, I didn’t make it unfortunately, cripes indeed! Did anyone else go?
