Meeting Dr Who

With all the Chinese New Year stuff going on I completely forgot that the nice folk over at Forbidden Planet asked me along to hang out at one of their events recently. Although my comic buying habits have changed over the years I still use Forbidden Planet for the occasional T shirt purchase and geek friendly gift for friends. The same friends tend to give me Forbidden Planet vouchers in return as I’m particularly ‘hard to shop for’ apparently.

Anyway, I’m always more than happy to pop along to interesting places to see what makes them tick, but was particularly excited by this invitation as it was on the same day that Peter Davison, the actor I remember best as Doctor Who, was due to make an appearance. Also present were Louise Jameson who played Leela (as companion to Tom Baker) and Nicholas Briggs who is the current voice of the Daleks and the Cyberman in the so succesful it hurts revamp of the Beeb’s favourite time traveller.

I was expecting to see a lot of folk my age turn out, but was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of kids eager to meet the ‘old’ Doctor too. The special effects may not be quite as flash, but it’s good to know that the story telling is as timeless as ever. Quite appropriate really :)

There’s always someone interesting popping along so keep an eye on their events schedule, but in case you missed the Fifth Doctor I did remember to shoot a little video:
