Borough Market Gastro Tour

Passion

We had the great pleasure of organising a Gastro Tour of Borough Market a week or so ago. We invited some of our favourite food bloggers who we guessed would get a kick out of a two hour stroll around the stalls tasting food and drink. Now while we’re big fans of the market we’re no experts so it was up to Celia Brooks Brown to do the honours and reveal just how little we knew :)

Sara from The Kitchen Pantry came over from Italy and sums up our guide very well:

Our host, chef and foodie Celia Brooks Brown, was just wonderful: I’ve liked her from the first moment I spotted her! She was so smiley and charming that I couldn’t stop listening to her food-chatting with us and the stands holders!

Celia did indeed seem to know everyone in the market and at least one place actually reopened to ensure we all had a shot of Wheatgrass to keep us on our toes. Over to Aidan Brooks for the details:

If I remember correctly, our first stop was at the Total Organics juice bar. Here we got to try some extremely potent shots of wheatgrass juice - just one shot of this lurid green liquid provides the same amount of vitamins as an entire week’s recommended intake of fruit and veg! They were chased down with a shot of the soothing (and very much more palatable) açaí. By the way, Totally Organic was where I bought the frozen açaí I used to make my Christmas dessert of persimmon with açaí berry & mascarpone ice cream.

Shots

Julia from A Slice of Cherry Pie took some great photos and also highlights some of the best bits:

“We also got to hold an ostridge egg (did you know one egg feeds 5-6 people? That’s a big omelette.)”

London food blog Jam Faced had this to add:

I have to say we were all raving about the white balsamic vinegar and I for one was slightly bemused by the truffle honey, admittedly mostly due to Ben from Food and Drink in London making me taste some pesto at the same time. Not the best combo it had to be said. I’d heartily recommend the tour to anyone who’s not been to the market or as a cool touristy thing to do if you’re a visitor and of a mind to get guided round the best Borough has to offer.

Get in touch with Celia if you’d like to take the tour.
