Who wins? Pizza or Sushi? Beer or Juice?

It’s now been a few months since we launched the Taste Finder and we’ve all been busily clicking away on what we love, like or cannot stand at all. Most of you have taken the test but for those who haven’t, Taste Finder is a short quiz where you get to answer questions regarding your preferences in food, drinks, music etc. If you are looking for it on the website, you can access it through your profile page, by selecting “take the test” in the drop-down menu - if you’re not a TrustedPlaces member yet, then what are you waiting for?
The reason why we set up Taste Finder is –of course- to make your experience at TrustedPlaces better. By filling-in the test, you can enrich your profile, see if you match with another member and, more importantly, make a better call on whether to trust a review or not. After about 1,500 submissions, we wanted to share a few of the findings with you, just so that you know better what are the likes and dislikes of the TrustedPlaces community. Here is a synopsis of the results so far:
In the food preferences section, pizza lovers prevail. Italian food attracts the highest user response and the largest overall score. It is no wonder why there are so many Italian restaurants in the UK, especially London! Other cuisines that attract high scores are Indian, Thai, Chinese and French. The most hated type of food, generating the most negative response in the whole test, is fast food. Gourmet food connoisseurs unite in TrustedPlaces!
Regarding favourite places, most people prefer friendly, chill-out and independent spots. The “places” section attracted the most negative voting, with places like fast food, chains, pulling joint and mainstream all being viewed very negatively. Surprising results, considering that chains and mainstream places are always crowded! Is it just tourists that go there or do we all pretend to be a little more alternative than we really are?
In terms of music preferences, it seems that rock will never die. Rock fans have spoken out, attributing the highest score to their beloved music genre. Very close to rock comes alternative music, followed by indie and jazz. You lot are a sophisticated crowd indeed!
The next section in Taste Finder is people. Comedians, cool & sexy and enthusiastic are ranked as the most liked, while geeks fair pretty well too. Strangely enough, urban characters are not much appreciated – we probably need to change the picture of Ali G!
Moving on to your favourite drinks, we have wine and fresh juice being the clear winners. Long lives healthy living! Cocktails are next, for a more celebrity-like feeling, followed by coffee (you have to wake up somehow in the morning!). No beer and tea in the first positions? Now that’s a surprise!
The last section in Taste Finder concerns cities that you like or dislike. The most beloved cities are London and Paris, with New York and Barcelona being very close to the top. Interesting to see how Manchester and Dubai generate a lot of responses which however are mixed, resulting in a neutral overall rating.
What do you think? Any categories that we should add? Ways we can make the Taste Finder more useful and fun? We’re working on a new version of the Taste Finder and your ideas would be most welcome as usual.
